DNEG Won its SIXTH Oscar for ‘TENET’
June 16, 2021We’re proud to share that DNEG has received the following awards this year. Join us in celebrating our talented teams for their exceptional work and well-deserved recognition.
We are thrilled to announce that TENET has won the Academy Award for ‘Best Visual Effects’! Congratulations to Andrew Jackson, Andrew Lockley, Scott Fisher and David Lee, and to the incredible DNEG teams whose work helped bring Christopher Nolan’s vision to the screen.
This is the sixth Academy Award win for DNEG in the last ten years, and the first win for Overall VFX Supervisor Andrew Jackson, who was previously nominated for his work on George Miller’s ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ (2015). And this is the third Oscar win for DNEG VFX Supervisor Andrew Lockley, who previously took home the ‘Best Visual Effects’ accolade for his work on Nolan’s ‘Inception’ (2010) and ‘Interstellar’ (2014).
Our award-winning creative played an integral part in visualising the film’s complex concepts of ‘reverse entropy’ and ‘time inversion’ — a feat they accomplished through close collaboration with the special effects and stunt crews.

TENET has won the ‘Special Visual Effects’ award at the 2021 British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs)!
Directed by long-term collaborator Christopher Nolan, the film’s highly complex concept of ‘reverse-entropy’ was constructed using intricate combinations of practical and visual effects. Overall VFX Supervisor Andrew Jackson and DNEG VFX Supervisor Andy Lockley worked alongside Nobel prize winner Kip Thorne — whom the team had worked alongside previously for Nolan’s ‘Interstellar’ — to ensure the film’s visuals were grounded in scientific theory.
Andy Lockley said of the win: “This is a fantastic surprise, thank you to BAFTA and all the members who voted for us. Thank you to everyone at DNEG who worked so hard on the VFX and Scott Fisher and his SPFX crew who all came together to make this possible. It’s an honour to accept the award on their behalf.”
TENET has also won the 2021 Critics’ Choice Award for ‘Best Visual Effects’.
Of their work on TENET, Andrew Jackson said: “All the way through, our real focus was on the viewer and creating scenes that capture their imagination while being as authentic as possible.”
Congratulations, TENET team!
